Star Awards 2024, Singapore’s biggest entertainment show, took place on Apr 21 at The Theatre at Mediacorp. It was a big night for the entertainment industry – over 150 contenders were in the running for a slew of awards – as it was a big night in fashion.

Best Actor winner Jeremy Chan took home his first acting award in a suave white Dolce & Gabbana suit. Caldecott queen Zoe Tay took to the red carpet in a vintage coral Tom Ford Lichtenstein-esque gown from the fashion designer’s Fall/Winter 2013 collection. Rebecca Lim took time off maternity leave to partake in the ceremony in a striking Gucci cape dress.

Leading male stars Richie Koh, Desmond Tan and Zhang Ze Tong updated the black-tie dress code with their own unique takes. Richie tried on ‘shrimp cocktail’ pink for size, while Desmond’s cropped Louis Vuitton jacket and Mary Janes combi dreamt up by Pharrell Williams was nothing short of fashion forward. And Ze Tong rewrote the style rules with a Dolce & Gabbana sleeveless shirt and vest ensemble.

The female stars didn’t let up either. There was something familiar about Chantalle Ng’s netted and tasselled Sportmax dress that was somehow reminiscent of her deconstructed chainmail dress from Star Awards 2023. Ann Kok accepted her All Time Favourite Artiste award in a sequined disco diva gown that shone like a mirror in mid day. Ajumma Hong Huifang forsook the expected ballgown and strode down the runway in a sleek black and white suit complete with cool confidence.

BOYS IN COLOURS

Tyler Ten opted for tight red leather. While he wore the colour well, the biceps and the pectoral muscles looked like they were screaming for early release.

Richie Koh’s Bioskin Most Charismatic Award win might have had something to do with his pink suit that most definitely added to his charisma.

No Bandung for Elvin Ng this year, the 43-year-old kept it staid with an all-beige double-breasted suit.

Jernelle Oh took home a Most Popular Rising Star award in a resplendent Nicole + Felicia Couture princess gown.

Ya Hui exuded silver screen goddess energy in this pleated gold gown. The “huat”, or prosperity, colour was a happy coincidence with her eighth Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes win.

Xiang Yun’s play on gold and black was equal parts glamorous and chic.

Felicia Chin. (Photo: Mediacorp Studio 3)

Felicia Chin may have left Mediacorp but she hasn’t forgotten how to play the game: Pick a shiny dress to be seen. Kudos on this modern C3PO take.

Hong Huifang’s black and white satin suit flanked by oversized rosettes is made even more powerful with that statement ring by Singaporean jeweller State Property Fine Jewellery.

It’s black, it’s white. Black and white was what real-life couples Jesseca Liu and Jeremy Chan, as well as Hong Ling and Nick Teo unanimously turned up in. Totally unscripted, even Favourite CP winners Desmond Tan and Chantalle Ng were clad in the same dress code. It’s definitely a couple thing.
